Problem is, it's got some of that "surround" silliness built in. There's only stereo inputs, but it's got outputs for 5 channels no sub. Of course, I only listen in stereo and see no reason to change. I wrote it off as just being a different amplifier, but after fiddling a while, I think that the surround option either can't or won't be turned off.

For instance, there are a million Surround modes. All the controls for this are electronic, of course. I would love to listen in pure stereo there's even a Source Direct button!

All I can say is make sure your speakers are connected to the main A outputs. Make sure the surround mode is off, and use the source direct button. It kinda seems like you have tried all this. Is there maybe some function that you would need to use the remote for?

I was wondering that myself. Right now I'm using the A and B outputs the huge binding posts so I'm not using the rear speaker terminals. Surround is off and source direct is on.
